About the position

The Controls Designer and Estimator will work for a Texas-based systems integration company, focusing on municipal water and wastewater SCADA systems, electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects. This role involves project management, estimating, bidding, and liaising with various stakeholders in the water/wastewater industry.

Responsibilities

• Act as a project liaison with general contractors, engineers, owners, and subcontractors in the water/wastewater industry.
• Monitor plan rooms and other sources for potential projects.
• Review plans and specifications or participate in the design and development of quotations based on scopes of work.
• Manage personnel and resources for projects.
• Order materials, address final inspections, and prepare close-out documents.
• Prepare quotations for contractors during the bid phase.
• Manage the bid process, contracts, and requirements.
• Prepare take-offs and estimates using bidding software.
• Responsible for submittals and O&M's.
• Attend project progress meetings.

Requirements

• Familiarity with the water/wastewater industry, plant process control, and water/wastewater plant operations.
• Certified operator experience is a practical transition field to this position.
• Understanding of SCADA technology and its applications.
• Experience in reviewing engineering plans and specifications.
• Detailed understanding of P&ID diagrams.
• Knowledge of pressure, flow, level, and HACA analytical instruments.
• Familiarity with PLC parts and card applications (DI, DO, AI, AO), control panel parts, terminal blocks, motor starters, VFDs, DC power supplies, wire ducts, UL508A, and surge suppression.
• Ability to generate PLC I/O lists from P&ID documentation.
• Awareness of different communication protocols: Modbus RS485, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet, DF1, and Fiber Optic Network configurations.
• Ability to understand project status milestones and effectively communicate with system integrators.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in project estimation for at least 5 years.
• Experience with PLC configuration for at least 5 years.
