About the position

The Controls Engineer II at Gentex plays a crucial role in the development, deployment, and enhancement of automated manufacturing systems, particularly focusing on robotics and robotic processes. This position is integral to ensuring that Gentex remains at the forefront of innovation in the automotive market. The engineer will provide expert support for both new and existing robotic systems, continuously monitoring and identifying areas for improvement. This includes developing programs for new and existing equipment using both online and offline programming techniques, as well as evaluating and specifying the necessary hardware and software for automated equipment. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Controls Engineer II will work closely with other engineers to standardize automated and programming solutions across similar equipment. A significant emphasis will be placed on robot point teaching methods, fixtures, and procedures. The engineer will also support team members in developing new manufacturing processes and will be responsible for educating, training, and developing automation support technicians. Researching and developing new robotic solutions for automated equipment is another critical aspect of this position, along with identifying and addressing areas of obsolescence. The engineer will work closely with maintenance teams to manage spare parts, obsolescence, and other robotic maintenance needs, ensuring that all duties are performed in compliance with company policies and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be action-oriented, detail-focused, and possess strong communication skills to effectively convey information to various audiences. Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, expert-like support for new and existing robotic systems.
  • Monitor and define areas of improvement within existing robotic systems.
  • Develop programs for new and existing equipment, using both on-line and off-line programming techniques.
  • Evaluate and specify hardware and software for automated equipment.
  • Work with other Engineers to standardize automated and programming solutions across similar equipment, focusing on robot point teaching methods, fixtures, and procedures.
  • Support engineering team members in the development of new processes for manufacturing.
  • Educate, train, and develop automation support technicians.
  • Research and develop new robotic solutions for automated equipment.
  • Identify and address areas of obsolescence.
  • Work closely with maintenance to address spare parts, obsolescence, and other robotic maintenance needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4-year Engineering degree, or combination of education and equivalent controls engineering experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing, programming or integrating automated equipment.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with robotics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with either AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • The ability to read and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic aptitude.
