About the position

The Controls Engineer position focuses on developing and maintaining control programs for robotic systems in a manufacturing environment. The role requires a strong background in PLC programming and robotics, with an emphasis on quality control and project management. The engineer will collaborate with robotic and HMI programmers to ensure system functionality and will be responsible for debugging and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Take initiative to meet challenging project timelines and hour budgets
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities for project success
  • Write and debug effective and safe control programs, which meet end user requirements and company expectations
  • Work with Robotic Programmers and HMI Programmers to ensure full functionality of the system
  • Maintain quality of equipment shipped
  • Ensure control programming of equipment and tooling is complete, safe, and functional
  • Meet requirements for internal runoffs, safety inspections, and other quality control procedures
  • Clear communication with project management staff and supervisors on issues that may arise
  • Debugging of electrical and mechanical systems as needed for operation of all machines
  • Effective communication with robotic programmers regarding necessary requirements to ensure a project runs smoothly
  • Uphold company quality objectives and play an active role in reaching continuous improvement objectives
  • Willingness to travel as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent; or Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science; or equivalent with experience will be considered
  • 5+ years' experience in PLC programming
  • Machine programming (PLC/HMI) experience - Rockwell, GE
  • Safety system programming and troubleshooting experience
  • Network programming and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience in robotic welding (MIG, TIG, laser, spot) preferred
  • High attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to plan and execute daily and weekly scheduled tasks
  • Ability to keep work area clean and organized
  • Willingness and ability to follow directions from peers within the Integration department
  • Excellent team player with organizational and time management skills
  • Safely operate fork trucks and overhead cranes
