About the position

As a Controls Engineer at Trex, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our manufacturing processes through innovative design and support for instrumentation, PLC controls, and variable frequency drives that power all production lines. This position is integral to our Process Engineering team, where you will be expected to maximize productivity and efficiency across our facilities. Your responsibilities will include leading safety initiatives, participating in site safety programs, and ensuring compliance with NFPA70E standards. You will develop and execute changes to PLC controls in collaboration with process engineers and maintenance technicians, maintaining comprehensive documentation for electrical panels and PLC controls. Additionally, you will support capital engineering projects, including panel design and new equipment startup, while being involved in troubleshooting and assisting maintenance with control issues. Responsibilities

  • Participate in site safety programs designed to assure safe working conditions and eliminate any workplace accident.
  • Be familiar with and provide oversight on NFPA70E.
  • Develop and execute changes to PLC controls where necessary working with process engineers and maintenance technicians.
  • Maintain the documentation for the electrical panels and PLC controls for each process, including drawings, diagrams, manuals, and installation disks/CD's.
  • Support capital engineering projects for new equipment, including panel design, coordination with vendors for construction, PLC and HMI programming, and new equipment startup.
  • Assist maintenance with troubleshooting of control systems, including PLC, drive, instrumentation, and electrical installations.
  • Develop and review procedures and provide training for others to handle routine PLC control or electrical issues during normal off-hours.
  • Conduct and maintain necessary contacts to ensure that PLC controls and equipment are current and that necessary spare parts are available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in controls design and programming in a manufacturing environment.
  • Controls Engineer I: 0-1 years of controls design and programming experience.
  • Controls Engineer II: 2-4 years of controls design and programming experience.
  • Controls Engineer III: 5-7 years of controls design and programming experience.
  • Candidates with an associate degree and relevant experience will also be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a systems engineer or electrical engineer.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and practices in manufacturing environments.
