About the position

As a Controls Engineering Manager at Trane Technologies, you will be responsible for leading the Building Automation Systems (BAS) technology platforms across the region. This role is pivotal in enhancing and driving awareness and expertise in HVAC Controls. You will need to have a comprehensive understanding of Trane and industry product hardware, system software, and basic HVAC equipment selection criteria. Your leadership will support the development of tools that improve efficiencies related to Electronics, Direct Digital Controls, Air Flow Dynamics, Hydronic systems, Refrigeration Theory, and environmental system knowledge. You will also lead local engineering teams in creating quality submittal data and coordinate with the Engineering Center of Excellence for overflow engineering tasks. In this position, you will communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders, including other leaders, suppliers, contractors, and external engineering firms. You will prepare and deliver engineering-related presentations, visit customer sites to support sales efforts, and engage with service teams to align with the One Trane concept. As the regional engineering leader and technical subject matter expert, you will provide validation and support for technical parts of estimating new projects and renovations. You will create detailed engineering plans and processes for your team, oversee project estimates and budgets, and conduct quality assurance checks to ensure project quality. Additionally, you will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising engineering team members, spearheading initiatives for process improvements, and performing product demonstrations. You will also provide monthly reports on your activities, supporting all Trane personnel within the region. This role requires up to 25% travel within the region, and you will be provided with a company vehicle as part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the BAS technology platforms region-wide to enhance awareness and expertise in HVAC Controls.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other leaders, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Prepare and deliver engineering-related presentations internally and externally.
  • Visit customer sites to support sales account managers and assist in gaining approval for Trane technology.
  • Engage with Corporate Roundtable councils to stay current on new hardware and software.
  • Serve as the regional engineering leader and technical subject matter expert.
  • Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for the engineering team.
  • Propose and oversee estimates, budgets, and timelines for engineering projects.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects.
  • Hire, train, and supervise engineering team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6-8 years of proven experience in the HVAC Controls Industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven leadership skills and self-motivation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions and technical manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months with no major traffic violations.
