About the position

The Controls Inside Sales Engineer at Harrison Energy Partners is responsible for the project planning and sales process related to building automation systems. This role involves assessing project viability, preparing cost estimates, developing proposals, and ensuring a smooth transition from sales to project execution. The engineer collaborates with the sales team and project managers to deliver effective solutions while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receive project construction plans and specifications from the sales team to assess project viability.
  • Review and analyze construction plans, specifications, and relevant codes to identify project requirements and potential risks.
  • Select appropriate control products and installation methods to provide cost-effective solutions that meet project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed product selections, cost analyses, and coordinate with subcontractors to develop accurate project estimates.
  • Participate in initial job site walkthroughs with contractors or building management to evaluate project requirements for existing buildings.
  • Develop a project-specific scope of work and prepare a formal, itemized proposal for the sales team to present to the client.
  • Participate in sales-to-operations turnover meetings to communicate project requirements, proposed scope, and cost estimates to the operations team.
  • Work closely with project managers post-sales to ensure a smooth transition from estimation to project execution and address any issues that may arise.
  • Prepare engineering re-estimates when necessary and collaborate with the sales team to ensure clarity and satisfaction with the project scope.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the sales account manager and the controls team.
  • Assist with preliminary design of control systems to support the engineering efforts of the controls sales account manager.
  • Stay updated on the latest control products, technologies, and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions for projects.
  • Identify potential risks associated with proposed solutions and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery and costs.
  • Review and ensure that all estimates and proposals comply with company standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all project documentation, including estimates, proposals, contracts, and communications.
  • Participate in continuous professional development to enhance technical knowledge and stay updated on industry standards and best practices.
  • Provide feedback to the design and engineering teams on estimating and project outcomes to improve future project planning and estimation accuracy.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, project management, or a related field within the building controls, automation, or HVAC industries.
  • Experience with control systems, including HVAC controls, lighting controls, energy management systems, or programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical data and develop accurate, competitive project estimates.
  • State driver's license, auto insurance, auto registration, acceptable driving record.
