About the position

The Controls/Instrumentation/Process (CIP) Engineer at Broadwind Clean Fuels is responsible for designing and developing automated gas processing equipment. This role involves hands-on work from conceptual design to product shipment and field support, focusing on innovative solutions for the energy transition. The engineer will collaborate with a Product Development Team and manage various projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and development of automated gas processing equipment.
  • Support product definition and specification preparations including feasibility and risk assessment.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis for product development.
  • Assist in managing project scope, budget, resource requirements, and schedule.
  • Perform design calculations using standard and proprietary software.
  • Calculate sizing for control valves, pressure safety valves, relief valves, and flow meters.
  • Conduct instrumentation studies to select appropriate analytical elements and transmitters.
  • Create instrumentation PLC I/O lists and specify control systems hardware.
  • Collaborate in authoring control logic and PLC programs for system integration.
  • Interpret technical specifications and communicate requirements to manufacturing.
  • Contribute to product manufacturing process definition and documentation.
  • Participate in safety evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Assist with packaging design and electrical area classification drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Field experience troubleshooting equipment issues and training operators.
  • Familiarity with welding processes including Sub arc, MIG, and TIG.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Knowledge of industry standards/codes such as ASME, AISC, API, NFPA, IEEE.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skilled at creating and interpreting P&ID and electrical diagrams.
  • Basic navigation and design skills in Solid Works 3D CAD software.
  • Competency in creating and applying an indented BOM structure.
  • Experience in creating cost estimates for prototype designs.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
