About the position

The Controls & Integration Engineer V position at CPG involves a comprehensive role in designing, developing, installing, and maintaining systems that monitor and control various processes and equipment. This position is critical in industries such as building management systems and power system automation, particularly focusing on power chain monitoring and control systems in Data Centers and mission-critical environments. The engineer will leverage their expertise in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and field device configuration, including gateways, PLCs, meters, relays, and SCADA/HMI software, to meet complex customer needs. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for generating design documents for SCADA/Automation projects, performing requirements analysis, and developing specifications. They will also create subsystem designs, conduct QA/QC reviews, and ensure compliance with project requirements. The engineer will lead programming and configuration efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications, author test plans, and supervise testing activities. Additionally, they will manage proposals and estimates for medium to large projects, providing technical direction and training to less experienced engineers and technical staff. The position requires a strong background in controls systems, with a focus on switchgear, substations, metering, and SCADA systems. The engineer must be adept at troubleshooting and maintaining existing systems, as well as leading efforts in system testing and commissioning. This role is essential for ensuring that all systems are designed and implemented to meet the highest standards of quality and performance, contributing to the overall success of the projects undertaken by the company.

Responsibilities

  • Generate design documents for SCADA/Automation projects
  • Develop design documents narratives
  • Perform requirements analysis
  • Develop Sequence of Operations / System Functional Documentation
  • Create Subsystem Designs (CAD / Panels / Layouts / Wiring / SCADA Screens / Hardware / Communications)
  • Develop Specifications
  • Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs
  • Organize, supervise testing plans and procedures for Integrated Systems Factory Testing
  • Architect and lead programming / configuration team efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications
  • Program / Configure / troubleshoot Controllers, PLCs, RTUs, and/or HMI systems
  • Author test plans and lead testing activities
  • Prepare test reports and originate test procedures
  • Commission deployed systems and perform Factory and Field Testing
  • Perform troubleshooting on service calls to existing and legacy system operators
  • Lead proposal efforts for medium to large projects
  • Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for small projects
  • Assign technical tasks to engineers and administrative staff
  • Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and 8 years field experience
  • Associate degree in mechanical or electrical field and 10 years field experience
  • High school diploma and 12 years field experience
  • 7 years' experience with designing and servicing controls systems for switchgear, substations, metering and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
  • Experience in reading electrical and control schematics
  • Experience in control system startup, configuration, and calibration
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting control and protection systems
  • Experience using basic electrical and hand tools
  • Experience using testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software
  • Experience testing, reading/verifying all voltage and current inputs to relays; verifying all metering (local and SCADA); calibrating all relays; trip testing (local and SCADA); verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all function switches.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in one or more PLC / Automation Platform, such as: Niagara N4, Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, JCI, etc.
  • Certification in one or more SCADA platform, such as: Iconics, Ignition, etc.
  • Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)
  • Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA)
  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
