About the position

The Controls Manager for the Data Center Capacity Delivery team at AWS is responsible for the deployment and service of building automation systems and electrical power monitoring systems within Amazon data centers. This role involves managing a team of skilled professionals, ensuring the highest standards of safety and security, and contributing to innovations in building controls and automation. The position requires a strategic mindset to align building controls with broader business objectives while fostering an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and track team goals, reporting the status of ongoing projects upwards.
  • Develop launch plans for new hires and identify team needs.
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot BMS/EPMS systems and/or industrial controls systems.
  • Articulate thoughts clearly and concisely in writing.
  • Understand electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, and industrial HVAC.
  • Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
  • Manage scope of work relative to site specifics and customer needs.
  • Manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to design intent.
  • Read and interpret specifications and implement them in the work environment.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal customers.
  • Coordinate project work internally and externally to ensure on-time completion within budget.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical or related engineering field with 5+ years of industrial controls system experience or 10+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing a team of Controls Engineers and Technicians.
  • 2+ years of experience in hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of controls professionals.
  • 5+ years of experience in high availability environments such as Data Centers, Hospitals, Oil & Gas, Energy, Water, or Manufacturing Industries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams in a Controls, Mechanical, or Electrical construction environment.
  • Experience as a Controls Engineering Specialist.
  • 4+ years of managing a highly skilled engineering team.
  • Project management, organization, and problem-solving skills with a drive for results.
  • Ability to build peer relationships and work independently.
  • Ability to operate with little to no supervision.
