Controls Software Designer

About the position

The Controls Software Designer at TEC Group Inc. is a specialized role focused on the design and implementation of controls software, including PLC, HMI, Servo, and VFD systems. This position requires a disciplined approach to software design, adhering to a well-defined design process that includes phase gates and checklists. The designer must maintain effective communication and collaboration with peers and management while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement controls software for PLC, HMI, Servo, and VFD systems.
• Develop software applications for automation systems and commissioning.
• Construct system Bill of Materials and design electrical & pneumatic systems using AutoCAD or equivalent.
• Read, comprehend, and implement customer standards related to controls design.
• Commission and debug automation systems, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
• Interface with mechanical design, shop trades, and customers for project delivery.
• Monitor project delivery dates and changes, ensuring adherence to quality systems.
• Develop standardized software tools and designs, participating in continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Science (CS) preferred.
• 2-4 years of related experience in controls software design or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD annotations.
• Strong mathematical skills, including advanced concepts such as exponents and logarithms.

• Formal technical training in controls systems or related fields.
