About the position

The Controls Technician at Sazerac Company is responsible for overseeing the plant-wide controls and electrical infrastructure, including instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, and distributed control systems. This role involves both new installations and maintenance, mentoring technicians, and ensuring operational efficiency and safety compliance. The technician will also lead efforts to reduce downtime, provide technical support, and collaborate with various departments to enhance production quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for plant-wide controls & electrical infrastructure including instrumentation and control systems.
  • Mentor, train, and coach technicians to improve their skills and performance.
  • Organize workloads and manage work quality to ensure uptime and product quality.
  • Assist in the design, development, testing, and implementation of electrical and control systems.
  • Lead efforts to reduce downtime by evaluating and testing equipment for electrical problems.
  • Provide technical assistance and resolution for electrical or engineering problems during project implementation.
  • Monitor and enforce OSHA and company safety regulations and policies.
  • Assist with evaluation of engineering proposals and shop drawings for compliance with safety criteria.
  • Develop and execute safe practices and operating procedures to minimize workplace accidents.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment in accordance with quality control programs and report findings.
  • Prepare project cost and work-time estimates to meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate with all departments to identify and solve problems within the discipline.
  • Ensure Maintenance Technicians meet all regulatory requirements including OSHA and EPA regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of hands-on electrical experience, including Allen Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and ladder logic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Alcohol Beverage Industry or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG).
  • Rockwell Automation controls training.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • 3 years of management experience.
