About the position

The Controls Technician at General Mills, Inc. is responsible for supporting, creating, integrating, troubleshooting, and improving electrical and control systems within the manufacturing facility. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient operation of the plant, which operates 24/7, and involves working with advanced technology in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support, create, integrate, program, troubleshoot, and improve processing and packaging control systems.
  • Read and update electrical and control schematics, piping, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Interface, maintain, and calibrate analog transmitters, load cell systems, vision systems, checkweighers, and metal detectors.
  • Configure and maintain industrial networks such as Ethernet, DeviceNet, RIO, DH+, etc.
  • Provide technical support for equipment troubleshooting and controls/equipment modifications.
  • Perform both uptime and downtime preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance work.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance platform performance.
  • Assist in training new employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in Controls Programming and Industrial Controls Technology or equivalent education in a related field, preferably 2 or more years of industrial maintenance work experience.
  • Experience with AB PLC platforms, servo control systems, and robotic control systems.
  • Knowledge and practical application of PLCs, HMIs, process instrumentation, machine control systems, VFDs, servo drives, and power distribution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with B&R and Beckhoff Controls is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
