About the position

The Teacher at the Community Action Program for Central Arkansas is responsible for implementing an educational program for children aged 3-5 years. This role involves creating a safe and nurturing learning environment, planning and executing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and fostering positive relationships with children and their families. The Teacher will work under the supervision of the Early Childhood Director and the Center Manager, ensuring that the educational needs of the children are met while adhering to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers, and children.
  • Plan and implement learning experiences that advance children's intellectual and physical development.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment that supports children's social and emotional development.
  • Encourage family involvement and support positive family-child relationships.
  • Guide children's behavior positively and proactively.
  • Implement daily lesson plans and promote developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Schedule and conduct educational home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Monitor and document children's growth and development using data collection tools.
  • Provide supervision for children and other staff or volunteers as designated.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the center.
  • Promote good eating habits during meal times with children.
  • Work cooperatively with other classroom and center staff.
  • Assist in obtaining and documenting volunteer hours and donations for In-Kind contributions.
  • Attend and participate in monthly center staff meetings and other requested meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the IEP Team and assist in implementing classroom supports for children with IEPs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent coursework with preschool teaching experience.
  • One year of experience teaching children ages 3 to 5 years.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Good physical condition to lift children and participate in physical activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Experience with Head Start programs.
