About the position

This position serves as a Cook within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) School Lunch Program Division at Fort Liberty, NC. The role involves preparing and cooking a variety of foods in compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards, ensuring safe food preparation and storage, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. The Cook will work under the guidance of a supervisor and collaborate with Food and Nutrition Specialists to coordinate menus and food orders.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of the supervisor to follow procedures and regulations.
  • Serves as a Cook in a DoDEA cafeteria, adhering to applicable regulations and standards.
  • Assists in planning and implementing a comprehensive food service program following USDA CACFP policies.
  • Follows standard recipes and menus according to USDA CACFP and Army policies.
  • Performs food preparation tasks such as cleaning, paring, peeling, slicing, and dicing.
  • Prepares and cooks a variety of complex foods including meats, poultry, seafood, and baked goods.
  • Makes sandwiches, salads, and salad dressings as per menu requirements.
  • Adjusts recipes for different quantities and slices meat to specific requirements.
  • Follows health and safety precautions for food preparation and storage.
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring cleanliness.
  • Apportions food into serving containers according to portion sizes and requirements.
  • Coordinates with supervisor/staff on feeding plans and dietary restrictions.
  • Works with Food and Nutrition Specialists to prepare menus and submit food orders.
  • Keeps records on food usage, portions prepared, and inventory management.
  • Assists in training other kitchen staff members as needed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 months of work experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
