About the position

The Cook at Caraday of Corpus Christi is responsible for preparing and serving food, including texture modified and therapeutic diets, in accordance with the facility menu. This role requires adherence to current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, ensuring that quality food service is provided at all times. The Cook must utilize protective gear in all appropriate functions and assist in assuring proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures are followed. The Cook must be detail-oriented, well-groomed, and act professionally while being a team player who works well with others. This position involves assisting dietary aides as necessary and directing other employees with approval in the absence of the Dining Services Director. The Cook is expected to maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance and must be dependable, with experience working in facilities utilizing quantity food production methods. Additionally, the Cook should possess a general knowledge and understanding of nutrition, be able to read and accurately apply requirements of food tray cards, and maintain records and complete reports as required. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact positively with residents, clients, and other personnel. The Cook must be able to work around food and cleaning products and must reside in the service area.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure food is prepared in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Assist in proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
  • Direct other employees with approval in the absence of the Dining Services Director.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Follow time schedules for meal preparation and serving.
  • Interact positively with residents, clients, and other personnel.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must successfully complete an approved sanitation and safety course within 60 days of employment.
  • Dependable with experience in quantity food production methods.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English, follow directions, and complete tasks.
  • General knowledge and understanding of nutrition.
  • Ability to read and accurately apply requirements of food tray cards.
  • Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized training in foodservice is desirable.
