About the position

The Cook at Woodland Early Learning Center plays a vital role in preparing healthy meals and snacks for children, ensuring they receive the nutrition necessary for their growth and learning. This position involves maintaining kitchen hygiene, managing food supplies, and collaborating with center staff to support the overall success of the educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare healthy and tasty meals and snacks for children.
  • Maintain kitchen and related equipment safely and hygienically.
  • Order food and supplies as needed.
  • Dispense and store medication, as requested.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation according to KinderCare and other licensing or regulation requirements.
  • Assist with other daily center duties as needed.
  • Collaborate with center staff and leadership to achieve goals around enrollment, accreditation, and engagement.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with food storage conditions and understanding of food allergies.
  • Ability to follow nutritious menus and prepare sufficient quantities of food.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating serving portions.
  • Possess a Food Handler's License or willingness to obtain one.
  • At least one year of institutional cooking experience; food ordering experience is highly desirable.
  • Two or more years of experience working with children is highly desirable.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in classrooms or the kitchen.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and speaking English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a catering or institutional cooking environment.
  • Knowledge of child nutrition and dietary needs.
