About the position

As a Cook at the Good Samaritan Society, you will play a vital role in preparing and serving food for patients, residents, staff, and visitors at our Omaha facility. This position requires you to adhere to food quality standards, ensuring that all meals are not only nutritious but also appealing in appearance and taste. You will be responsible for cooking, seasoning, and portioning food according to dietary requirements and menu guidelines, while maintaining high standards of sanitation and cleanliness in the cooking and serving areas. In this role, you will work closely with various internal customers, necessitating strong communication and teamwork skills. You will need to thrive in a dynamic culinary environment, following standardized recipes and Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines to ensure food safety. Documenting HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes is essential to guarantee the highest quality and safest food possible. You will operate a variety of kitchen equipment, including mixers, slicers, ovens, and fryers, and will be expected to maintain proper labeling and storage of food and equipment. The Cook position requires the ability to work independently when necessary, as well as a solid understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. Basic math skills are important for measuring ingredients accurately, and you should be comfortable reading and understanding recipes. This role involves being on your feet for the majority of the day and walking long distances throughout the facility, making physical stamina a key requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble baked goods, cook, season, and portion food for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Adhere to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Perform washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas.
  • Maintain labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery.
  • Follow standardized recipes and HACCP guidelines to prepare, store, and use food and food products.
  • Document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes to assure food safety.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, ovens, and fryers.
