About the position

As a Full Time Evenings Cook at The Good Samaritan Society, you will play a vital role in preparing and serving high-quality meals for our patients, residents, staff, and visitors. Your primary responsibilities will include cooking, seasoning, and portioning food according to established dietary guidelines and menu requirements. You will ensure that all food meets the organization's standards for appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation. This position requires adherence to food safety protocols, including Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines, to guarantee the safety and quality of the food served. You will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in cooking and serving areas, including washing and cleaning duties, and ensuring proper labeling and storage of food and equipment. In this dynamic culinary environment, you will work closely with various internal customers, necessitating strong communication and teamwork skills. You will follow standardized recipes and production sheets to prepare daily and weekly menus, documenting HACCP steps and temperatures to ensure compliance with safety standards. Operating a variety of kitchen equipment, such as mixers, slicers, ovens, and fryers, will be part of your daily tasks. The role requires the ability to work independently when necessary and to demonstrate a solid understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. You will be on your feet for most of the day and may need to walk long distances within the facility. Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and cook baked goods and meals for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Season and portion food according to dietary requirements and menu guidelines.
  • Adhere to food quality standards for appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Perform washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation in cooking and serving areas.
  • Maintain proper labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery.
  • Document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes to ensure food safety.
  • Follow standardized recipes and production sheets for daily and weekly menus.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, ovens, and fryers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal customers, demonstrating strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Exhibit the ability to work independently when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic math skills for measuring ingredients.
  • Minimum of six months of applicable experience preferred, with on-the-job training provided.
  • Serv Safe certification may be required depending on location.
  • Fulfill annual continuing education requirements including departmental meetings and safety education.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on location.
  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on location.
