About the position

The Cook at BrookHaven Retirement Community is responsible for preparing menu items according to established standards, ensuring proper food handling and infection control, and assisting in the management of the dietary department. This role involves direct interaction with residents to meet their dietary needs and contribute to excellent resident care and customer relations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all necessary menu items in accordance with established standards.
  • Determine quantity of all food needed in meal preparation.
  • Follow recipes accurately during food preparation.
  • Use proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Prepare substitute items to meet residents' individual needs.
  • Serve meals using portions listed on the menu.
  • Cover, date, and label all leftovers and store them properly.
  • Follow established security routines in the kitchen.
  • Use proper infection control techniques and protective equipment as needed.
  • Perform all duties using proper safety techniques.
  • Attend and participate in in-service education opportunities.
  • Supervise Nutrition Services staff in the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager or Director.
  • Assist with catering duties when needed, onsite or offsite.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in Nutrition Services, large volume food preparation preferred, including therapeutic diets and service of food.
