About the position

As a Cook in a healthcare facility, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our clients receive nutritious and well-prepared meals that meet their dietary needs. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare food in accordance with planned menus, ensuring that all meals are prepared in sufficient quantities to serve our clients effectively. You will be expected to maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation, which includes proper food storage and temperature control for both hot and cold items. Daily inspections of work areas will be necessary to ensure cleanliness and organization, including storerooms, refrigerators, freezers, service areas, and dining rooms. In addition to food preparation, you will handle food in a sanitary manner throughout the entire process, from receipt to preparation and storage. This includes checking food temperature logs daily to ensure compliance with health regulations. You will also be responsible for checking equipment cleanliness and sanitation techniques, notifying the Food Service Supervisor of any necessary repairs or replacements. Assisting the Supervisor with ordering, stocking, and inventory management will also be part of your duties. On occasion, you may need to perform additional tasks such as washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, removing trash, and cleaning and sanitizing tables and service areas. This position is essential in supporting the overall mission of Rehab Without Walls, which focuses on providing quality care to individuals recovering from brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, or strokes. By ensuring that our clients receive the best possible nutrition, you will contribute to their recovery and overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures food preparation is in accordance with planned menus and in sufficient quantities
  • Ensures food is properly stored and the proper temperature is maintained in hot and cold food items
  • Inspects work areas daily to ensure they are kept well organized and clean including store room, refrigerators, freezers, service areas and dining rooms
  • Ensures food is handled in a sanitary manner, including receipt, preparation, and storage, including checking food temperature log daily to ensure appropriate temperature is maintained and logged in accordance with health regulations
  • Check equipment daily to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation techniques are followed
  • Notify the Food Service Supervisor and issue work orders for repairs or replacement when necessary
  • Assist Supervisor with ordering, stocking, and inventory as needed
  • As needed, wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, remove trash, clean and sanitize tables and service areas
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Three to six months related experience and/or training; must be able to make quantitative calculations using both fractional and decimal measure units
  • High School Diploma required
  • One year in Culinary Arts or related field from a college or technical school and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Valid State Driver's License; County Sanitation Certification
