About the position

As a Cook II at Marriott International, you will play a vital role in the culinary team at The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare ingredients for cooking, which includes tasks such as portioning, chopping, and storing food. You will be expected to wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables, weigh, measure, and mix ingredients, and prepare and cook food according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing cold foods and operating various kitchen equipment, including ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers. It is essential to test foods to ensure they are cooked sufficiently and to monitor food quality throughout the preparation process. In this role, you will also set up and break down your work station, serve food in proper portions onto appropriate receptacles, and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen area by washing and disinfecting tables, tools, knives, and equipment. You will need to check and ensure the correctness of the temperature of appliances and food, adhering to all company and safety policies and procedures. Reporting maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to your manager is crucial, as is completing safety training and certifications. You will be expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance, protect company assets, and communicate effectively with colleagues. Building positive working relationships with your team is essential, as you will support each other in reaching common goals and responding appropriately to concerns. You will ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards while being prepared to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance. This position requires a commitment to performing other reasonable job duties as requested by supervisors, contributing to a collaborative and efficient kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience in a culinary role.
  • No supervisory experience required.
  • No specific license or certification required.
