About the position

The Cook position at Needham Elementary School involves assisting the Cafeteria Manager in maintaining a successful food service program. The role includes preparing and serving food, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and managing food inventory. This part-time position requires a valid Driver's License and offers a work schedule of 30 hours per week for a typical work year of 9 months, starting on January 6, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing food for the National School Lunch Program using safe food handling procedures.
  • Stock and set up the serving line and necessary equipment for meal service.
  • Sanitize dishes, equipment, and eating areas after meal service.
  • Remove trash and waste from the kitchen.
  • Cross train in all positions, including the manager position.
  • Operate the POS lunch system and serve as cashier.
  • Assist with ordering, storing, and inventorying food and supplies.
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen preparations, including cleaning and stocking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in kitchen prep or cooking, preferably in food service.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED training preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cashiering skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of large volume food production and sanitizing equipment.
