About the position

The Good Samaritan Society is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cook for part-time evening shifts at our Superior, NE location. This position is integral to our mission of providing quality care and service to seniors in a Christian environment. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing, assembling, and serving food to patients, residents, staff, and visitors, ensuring that all meals meet dietary requirements and quality standards. You will work in a skilled nursing facility, where your culinary skills will contribute to the well-being and satisfaction of our residents. In this role, you will adhere to food quality standards regarding appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation. You will perform cleaning duties to maintain a sanitary cooking and serving environment, and you will be responsible for the proper labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery. Your ability to follow standardized recipes and Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines will be crucial in preparing and serving the highest quality and safest food possible. You will document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes to ensure compliance with safety standards. The Cook position requires excellent communication and teamwork skills, as you will collaborate with various internal customers. You should be able to thrive in a dynamic culinary environment, demonstrating the ability to work independently when necessary. Basic math skills are essential for measuring ingredients accurately, and you should be comfortable standing for extended periods and walking long distances within the facility. On-the-job training will be provided, and depending on the location, you may need to obtain Serv Safe certification and fulfill annual continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble baked goods, cook, season, and portion food for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Adhere to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Perform washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas.
  • Maintain labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery.
  • Follow standardized recipes and HACCP guidelines to prepare, store, and use food and food products.
  • Document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes to assure food safety.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, kettles, ovens, and dishwashers.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic culinary environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic math skills for measuring ingredients accurately.
  • Minimum of six months of applicable experience preferred, but on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Serv Safe certification may be required depending on location.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on location.
  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on location.

Nice-to-haves
