About the position

The position involves supervising and instructing inmate workers in a correctional facility, focusing on food preparation and safety. The role is essential for ensuring public safety and preparing individuals for successful reentry into the community. The incumbent will oversee food production, maintain security operations, and provide continual training to inmate workers, fostering a humane and secure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and instruction to 25-30 inmate workers assigned to various food preparation roles.
  • Conduct continual training for inmate workers in food production, presentation, and sanitation.
  • Oversee the receiving, storing, and issuing of food and non-food items.
  • Manage security operations including key control, knife control, and inmate accountability.
  • Conduct routine contraband searches throughout the work area.
  • Maintain the security of the institution as a primary responsibility.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must possess an approved Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI accredited provider.
  • Sufficient training and experience to perform the duties of the position, demonstrating ability to supervise and work with prisoners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in large quantity cooking and knowledge of special diets such as high protein and low sodium.
