About the position

The Cook at Charter Senior Living of Hazel Crest is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and delicious meals for residents in an assisted living environment. This role emphasizes menu planning, food safety, and maintaining a clean kitchen, while also fostering a warm dining experience that meets the dietary needs and preferences of residents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.
• Assist in planning weekly menus that cater to residents' dietary needs and preferences.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper food handling and cleanliness protocols.
• Engage with residents in a friendly manner, addressing meal preferences and dietary concerns.
• Monitor food inventory levels and manage ordering of supplies.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and report any maintenance issues to the Food Services Manager.
• Work effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth meal service operations.
• Complete and maintain required documentation for health and safety compliance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or assisted living setting.
• Strong culinary skills with a focus on food preparation and presentation.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and dietary requirements for elderly residents.
• Compassionate and patient demeanor with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Culinary certification or relevant vocational training is a plus.
