About the position

The Cooperative and Business Development Manager at Drexel University's Wealth + Work Futures Lab will lead the Healthy Camden Cooperative initiative, focusing on enhancing urban food ecosystems and empowering local entrepreneurs in Camden, New Jersey. This role involves designing strategies to support food businesses and leveraging cooperative models to foster a healthier and more equitable food economy in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct design research on creating an inclusive local purchasing cooperative for Camden entrepreneurs.
  • Develop a cooperative business model tailored to Camden's food businesses, including economic data analysis.
  • Establish and oversee a technical assistance program connecting experienced professionals with emerging entrepreneurs.
  • Explore collective purchasing strategies for local food businesses and analyze relevant investment opportunities.
  • Co-design strategies to enhance local food stakeholders' understanding of healthy food components in their business models.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal staff and external stakeholders to meet deliverable timelines.
  • Coordinate graphic design efforts for report products and oversee distribution of communications related to the initiative.
  • Lead additional procurement projects emerging at national, state, and local levels.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in business/economic development, economic sociology, public policy, human-centered design or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects related to the role's responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel between Philadelphia and Camden as needed.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional-level proficiency in English and Spanish; ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish.
  • Experience with human-centered program design and participatory research methods.
