The Achievement Connections AmeriCorps Program (AC) is a dynamic community partnership which has developed an evidence-based model of tutoring intervention fueled by impassioned AmeriCorps members and committed community volunteers. Its mission is to work with school staff to provide algebra and geometry tutoring support aimed at improving the academic achievement of low-performing high school students from a range of racial, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds and low-income families. The program serves high school students in Madison and Middleton, Wisconsin. The Coordinator, Achievement Connections will help advance the United Way of Dane County's Achievement Connections AmeriCorps program by supporting AmeriCorps volunteers, members, and the overall project. This is a 1-year grant funded position with an end date of August 14, 2025, with potential for extension depending on grant funding continuation.

Responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate the development and implementation of volunteer recruitment and training systems.
  • Support and coordinate the training and coaching of AmeriCorps members in volunteer management best practices.
  • Provide volunteer management training and assist AmeriCorps members with the onboarding, record keeping, support and exit of volunteers.
  • Provide volunteer activities to improve volunteer retention, including National Volunteer Week Programming.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer reporting systems.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of AmeriCorps members orientation and training, including weekly team meetings.
  • Provide coaching and technical support to AmeriCorps members.
  • Plan and coordinate group volunteer opportunities for AmeriCorps members.
  • Support community volunteer tutor coordination and recognition.
  • Coordinate member reflections and oversee content creation for social media, website, etc. in collaboration with UWDC Digital Media Program Manager.
  • Assist in handling general inquiries and request for information.
  • Assist the Director, Achievement Connections with recruiting and marketing efforts for the program.
  • Respond to recruitment inquiries from prospective members.
  • Assist the Director, Achievement Connections with online recruiting and outreach efforts for AmeriCorps members.
  • Collect testimonials and take pictures to record AmeriCorps service in action and enable ongoing recruitment efforts.
  • Assist with program progress and end-of-year reports as required by program partners.
  • Participate in organizational planning, strategy and program development, and activities of the organization as appropriate or determined.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalency required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in customer, human service or education field preferred.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate in a non-judgmental manner with people of diverse backgrounds and situations.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Two years of experience in human services, customer service help lines, phone and assistance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with AmeriCorps preferred.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Utilization of databases and familiarity with data entry principles.
  • Ability to build and manage productive relationships through an open, friendly and inclusive environment.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and be flexible.
  • Effective time management skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office computer systems, including Microsoft 365, word processing, Internet navigation proficiency and Teams.

Nice-to-haves
