The Coordinator, Benefits position at Harford Community College is designed to administer the College's benefits and retirement programs effectively. This role is pivotal in educating and enrolling employees in various benefits, addressing their inquiries, and resolving any issues that may arise. The Coordinator will engage in proactive communication with employees, vendors, carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators to ensure a smooth benefits administration process. This includes conducting orientations and enrollments, as well as managing all leave-related matters, such as sick leave, workers' compensation, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests. In this full-time, non-exempt staff position, the Coordinator will oversee all aspects of health and welfare plans, ensuring that new employees are educated about their options and that the database management is maintained in both vendor and Harford Community College systems. The role requires a thorough understanding of applicable laws and regulations, as well as the ability to propose and implement policy and procedure changes to enhance programs or comply with legal changes. Additionally, the Coordinator will manage retirement plan operations and compliance, providing direction to resources that assist qualifying retirees. The position also involves reviewing and managing all requests for leave, providing guidance and support to both supervisors and employees throughout the leave process. The Coordinator will track leave usage and accruals, oversee the sick leave bank, and manage accommodation requests in accordance with ADA guidelines. Proficiency in HRIS systems or benefits software is essential, along with strong skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint. Excellent writing and communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with employees at all levels. A deep knowledge of employee benefit programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans, is crucial for success in this role. The Coordinator must either be a certified Maryland State Retirement Coordinator or be able to obtain certification within the first six months of employment.
