About the position

The Coordinator, Benefits position at Harford Community College is responsible for administering the College's benefits and retirement programs. This role involves educating and enrolling employees, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues related to benefits. The coordinator will also manage leave-related matters, including sick leave, workers' compensation, and FMLA, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities

  • Administer the College's benefits and retirement programs.
  • Educate and enroll employees in benefits programs.
  • Answer employee questions and resolve benefits-related issues.
  • Conduct orientation and enrollments for new employees.
  • Process all leave-related matters including sick leave, workers' compensation, and FMLA.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding benefits administration.
  • Propose and implement policy and procedure changes for program enhancements or compliance.
  • Oversee health and welfare plans, including new employee education and database management.
  • Manage retirement plan operations and compliance.
  • Review and manage requests for leave, providing support to supervisors and employees.
  • Track leave usage and accruals, and manage the sick leave bank.
  • Handle accommodation requests in accordance with ADA guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience administering and managing benefits plans, retirement programs, and employee wellness programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of employee benefit programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans.
  • Experience with HRIS systems or Benefits Software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business preferred.
  • Prior working experience in a college/university setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Benefits Software Systems and/or Banner preferred.
  • Certification as a Maryland State Retirement Coordinator or ability to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.
