About the position

The Coordinator, Community Programs (Coordinator) will coordinate and assist in the successful instruction and implementation of PTM's umbrella of educational programming and field trip offerings. The Community Programs Coordinator is expected to understand the importance of cultural competency and inclusive practices. Additionally, the Coordinator must understand Philadelphia's educational landscape, and must have an instructional background in play-based informal learning. The Community Programs Coordinator will also work closely with caretakers and should have experience working with diverse populations. In addition to instruction, the Community Programs Coordinator will report to the Community Programs Manager, where they will be expected to support outreach initiatives, assist with school tours/field trips, keep track of administrative tasks for programs, instruct as needed, help to train staff on relevant curriculums, and support the evaluation processes of programs. The Community Programs Coordinator will actively support the Community Programs Manager in engaging pre-K and kindergarten teachers, early childhood learning centers, and the School District of Philadelphia, as equal and valued partners in the program development and implementation. This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit. The Coordinator will develop and maintain an organized administrative workflow to track the progress of community-based programs, including but not limited to Kinder Launch and Play Builders. They will assist with school tours and field trips as needed, and holistically support children entering PTM's early learning programming through the implementation of a multi-dimensional curriculum designed to prepare them for a successful transition to early learning, pre-k or kindergarten, socially, emotionally, and academically. The Coordinator will develop a strategic outreach plan to work with the Philadelphia school district and community partners to support recruitment for an array of programming, providing children and families with resources and tools to navigate various developmental learning stages. The role requires collaboration with Museum Learning staff and designated schools, local childcare organizations, and non-profits to recruit caretakers and children to participate in Community-Based programs at Please Touch Museum. The Coordinator will prioritize the Parkside community for outreach, helping to build and maintain relationships with local organizations that center on local families. They will provide technical support and lead instruction/classroom support during Kinder Launch, Play Builders, and other sessions as needed, while keeping track of events, program registration, and program statistics. The Coordinator will also organize meetings and support communication with Museum Learning staff, contribute to project reports across the Museum, assist with program assessment and evaluation, and help schedule educational advisory group meetings composed by PTM. The Coordinator will administratively organize and support program-aligned educational programs, workshops, events, spaces, and experiences for children, families, and educators, while supporting the continued development of various program curriculums, resources, and print materials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an organized administrative workflow to track the progress of community-based programs, including but not limited to Kinder Launch and Play Builders.
  • Assist with school tours and field trips as needed.
  • Holistically support children entering PTM's early learning programming through the implementation of a multi-dimensional curriculum designed to prepare them for a successful transition to early learning, pre-k or kindergarten, socially, emotionally, and academically.

  • Provide the children and families resources and tools to use as children make the transition through various developmental learning stages.
  • Support curriculum development, maintain an emphasis on cultural competency and support learning.
  • Work collaboratively with Museum Learning staff.
  • Collaborate with designated schools and local childcare organizations and non-profits to recruit caretakers and children to participate in Community-Based programs at Please Touch Museum, and update the program applications, intake forms, and other necessary documents as needed, track, organize and maintain information.

  • Assist Museum Learning and Development departments on program-related administrative projects as needed.
  • Participate and help schedule educational advisory group meetings composed by PTM.
  • Administratively organizes and supports program aligned educational programs, workshops, events, spaces, and experiences for children, families, and educators.
  • Supports continued development of various program curriculums, resources, and print materials.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree required, field of study: Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field (humanities/liberal arts).
  • Experience of 3-5 years teaching in an early childhood setting and coordinating administrative tasks required.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; experience writing curriculum, educational resources, and promotional copy.
  • Knowledgeable about supporting families and children in the transition to daycare, pre-k, or kindergarten.
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia school district structure, Philadelphia school/learning landscape, national and local curriculum standards.
  • Understanding of national and local curriculum and standards.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to initiate connection and build new relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Occasional in-person and virtual outreach required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and knowledge/willingness to be trained on database software.
  • Experience tracking statistics and preparing evaluation reports.
  • Proven track record for developing the highest quality and educational programs for multigenerational audiences, with a special interest and expertise in early learning and Kindergarten Readiness.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Kindergarten Readiness, standards and child development is required.
  • Understanding of the importance of inclusion, diversity and equity within urban education is central to working with our families.
  • Experience with accessibility considerations for children and caretakers.
