About the position

The Events Operations Coordinator at Houston Zoo plays a crucial role in supporting the planning and execution of public-oriented special events, including Zoo Lights and temporary exhibitions. This position involves collaboration with various internal departments and external vendors to ensure successful event management while adhering to safety and sustainability standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the Events Project Manager in planning, contracting, design, execution, and deinstallation of events.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships across all internal departments and work closely with Zoo staff as clients.
• Plan, develop, scope, schedule, and budget for events such as Zoo Lights and Feast with the Beasts.
• Coordinate the work of multiple suppliers, vendors, labor crews, and other personnel for effective project execution.
• Ensure compliance with safety and code standards in collaboration with Design & Engineering and Maintenance departments.
• Champion sustainability practices in construction and operations, including LEED standards.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and partner across teams and levels of staff.
• Contribute to wildlife conservation efforts through waste, water, and energy reduction initiatives.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years' relevant work experience.
• Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
• Knowledge of all phases of event planning, scheduling, scoping, design, construction, and operations.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety practices, including OSHA requirements.
• Skilled in budgeting and financial administration.
