About the position

The Coordinator for the Commission on Disabilities is responsible for leading initiatives that support individuals with disabilities, veterans, and their families in Harford County. This role involves managing awareness campaigns, recognition events, and developing new programs to enhance community services and partnerships. The Coordinator also addresses citizens' concerns regarding accessibility and transit issues, ensuring that the needs of the disability community are met effectively.

Responsibilities

• Process all disability-related complaints and inquiries in a timely manner.
• Conduct outreach and participate in events to develop partnerships with the Disability Community.
• Enhance employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
• Coordinate community conversations and educational forums for the Disability community.
• Oversee and attend monthly Disability Commission meetings.
• Host annual employment luncheons for individuals with differing abilities and their employers.
• Coordinate and host seminars and informational events.
• Work with the County's Veterans Affairs Coordinator to support veterans living in Harford County.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, behavioral science, health, liberal arts, or a related field.
• Two years of experience with increasing responsibility working with programs related to services for people with disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
• Ability to write reports with appropriate information.
• Ability to present matters concisely and work independently.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal anti-discrimination laws.
• Knowledge of community resources and services for the client population.
• Ability to manage budgets and coordinate teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in developing strategic initiatives for disability services.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
