About the position

The Coordinator for Student Union Communication and Marketing is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating marketing and promotional strategies for the student union program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. This role involves guiding student leaders, overseeing content creation, and ensuring effective communication across various media platforms. The coordinator will also engage in research and data analysis to support strategic initiatives, manage public relations, and provide organizational advising to student organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates promotions, marketing, sales, advertising, and partnership functions for the student union program.
  • Guides and supports student leaders in recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of student volunteers and staff.
  • Performs research, analyzes data, and participates in the development of strategic initiatives for student communications and marketing.
  • Provides oversight of the Campus Center Graphics department and implements a student development curriculum.
  • Ensures collaboration with student union leadership and service areas in developing marketing strategies.
  • Oversees content creation and management for social media channels, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Designs and creates social media graphics and videos aligned with branding.
  • Gathers and analyzes social media data and stays updated with trends.
  • Develops and maintains positive public relations with campus clients and local businesses.
  • Accounts for media service transactions and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Develops and revises policies and procedures for promotions and marketing.
  • Exercises budgetary direction and accountability for delegated accounts.
  • Provides organizational advising and counseling to student organizations.
  • Represents and supports the University and department mission to students.
  • Participates in providing educational services and training to students.
  • Performs oversight for assigned workspace and reports maintenance needs.
  • Develops and evaluates training programs for student graphics designers and managers.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in advertising, marketing, mass media, communications, journalism, education, business administration, social sciences, human development, or related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in educational services or public relations using multimedia platforms.
  • Considerable working knowledge of multimedia communication and marketing principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems creatively and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret and present information clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate personal computers and relevant software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a Master's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in leading others and managing work priorities.
  • Skilled in collaborative problem solving.
