About the position

The Coordinator for Student Union Communication and Marketing is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating marketing and promotional strategies for the student union program at the University of Hawaii. This role involves guiding student leaders, overseeing content creation for various media platforms, and ensuring effective communication and marketing efforts that align with student life initiatives. The coordinator will also manage public relations, analyze data for strategic initiatives, and provide training and support to student organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate promotions, marketing, sales, advertising, and partnership functions for the student union program.
  • Guide and support student leaders in recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of student volunteers and staff.
  • Perform research and analyze data to develop strategic initiatives for student life communications and marketing.
  • Oversee the Campus Center Graphics department and implement a student development curriculum.
  • Collaborate with student union leadership to develop marketing strategies that address student life program needs.
  • Manage content creation for the Student Life and Development website and social media channels.
  • Design and create social media graphics and videos to ensure high-quality content.
  • Analyze social media data and stay updated with trends and platform updates.
  • Develop and maintain positive public relations with campus clients and local businesses.
  • Ensure compliance with University, state, and federal regulations in media service transactions.
  • Develop and revise policies and procedures for promotions and marketing of student union programs.
  • Exercise budgetary direction and accountability for delegated accounts.
  • Provide organizational advising and support to student organizations to improve leadership skills.
  • Report facility maintenance needs and oversee assigned workspace.
  • Develop and evaluate training programs for student graphics designers and managers.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and relevant professional associations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in advertising, marketing, mass media, communications, journalism, education, business administration, social sciences, human development, or related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in educational services or public relations using multimedia platforms.
  • Considerable working knowledge of multimedia communication and marketing principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems using creative reasoning and logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in operating a personal computer and using word processing and financial management software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a Master's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in leading others and managing employee relations.
  • Skilled in collaborative problem-solving.
