About the position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Upward Bound Coordinator. This position is responsible for assisting in the oversight and administration of the Upward Bound program, which aims to support disadvantaged high school students in their journey towards postsecondary education. The coordinator will develop and coordinate counseling and advising aspects of the program, enhance parental involvement, and manage various programmatic activities, including Saturday Sessions and a Summer Residential Program. The role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster academic success among participants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oversight and administration of the Upward Bound program.
  • Develop and coordinate counseling/advising aspects including academic advising and course selection.
  • Foster and improve parental involvement in preparing students for college.
  • Recruit and retain students in the program.
  • Plan and execute Saturday Sessions and the Summer Residential Program, including supervision of staff.
  • Conceptualize new programming to enhance academic success of participants.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program goals and outcome assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • 2 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Valid Nevada driver license and ability to pass a federal background check.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Direct experience with TRIO, GEAR UP or similar grant-funded projects.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with academically-at-risk, low-income, and ethnically diverse students.
  • Experience with online communication with students.
