About the position

The Coordinator, Human Resources position at Florida A&M University focuses on Employee Relations, serving as a primary contact for inquiries related to performance evaluations and employee issues. Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary contact for inquiries related to the University Support Personnel System (USPS) and Administrative Professional (A&P) performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for coordinating and monitoring the completion of annual evaluations for USPS and A&P employees.
  • Prepares monthly reports detailing the USPS probationary evaluations that are due and submits necessary correspondence to supervisors.
  • Analyzes and reports metrics to the supervisor regarding the completion rates during the evaluation rating cycles.
  • Alerts the Time and Attendance Unit to assign personal holidays for USPS employees who successfully complete their probationary periods.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors regarding ER issues, providing timely guidance and support.
  • Assists in drafting disciplinary action letters and performance improvement plans for review by the immediate supervisor.
  • Aids in organizing USPS Predetermination Conferences (PDCs) by scheduling meetings and preparing confidential packets related to disciplinary actions.
  • Ensures the PDC Committee spreadsheet is regularly updated and maintains accurate records of ER cases and outcomes.
  • Assists in monitoring the university's drug testing program and keeps the supervisor updated to ensure compliance.
  • Aids the supervisor in updating relevant policies and regulations as directed.
  • Responsible for benchmarking best practices on assigned projects to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness within ER.
  • Collaborates with immediate supervisor to develop training classes on performance management related topics, including serving as a presenter.
  • Assists supervisor with the administration of the employee tuition waiver and reimbursement programs.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience in human resources; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer software and basic computer functions.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to compile printed materials and visual aids for training.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of human resource administration in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related university policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working in a human resources department within higher education.
  • Prior documented working experience in employee relations.
  • Experience creating presentations to include presenting to various class sizes, both in person and on Zoom.
  • Experience using Workday ERP system.
