About the position

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, is seeking a Human Resources professional to coordinate and administer activities related to associate leaves. This role ensures compliance with various company policies and federal and state leave regulations. The position involves providing guidance and support to associates, managers, and HR on matters related to leave of absence, including FMLA, non-FMLA, Military leave, company medical leave, and Paid Parental Leave. The HR professional will assist associates in returning to work from non-occupational injuries or illnesses and coordinate with vendors for STD, LTD, and Workers' Compensation. Additionally, the role includes ensuring timely and accurate payments for associates on leave.

Responsibilities

  • Manage case load including communication with associates regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules.
  • Coordinate the FMLA leave administration process from initial notice to return to work, including gathering paperwork and determining leave eligibility.
  • Review clinical documentation to approve or deny medical-related leave cases.
  • Maintain communication with employees on leave to facilitate a smooth return to work.
  • Recertify extension requests for leaves in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide direction to associates, managers, and HR Business Partners regarding leave policies, ADA, disability benefits, and workers' compensation.
  • Coordinate accommodation requests and return associates to work efficiently.
  • Support associates in understanding their benefits continuation rights as defined by company policy.
  • Integrate various disability management programs and ensure timely benefits provision.
  • Coordinate with associates to ensure awareness of other benefit programs such as STD, LTD, and Workers' Compensation.
  • Support HR/AR business partners with standard accommodation requests under ADA.
  • Document all correspondence and interactions related to leave cases.
  • Coordinate with managers and payroll to ensure payment for associates on leave or in transitional work.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws including FMLA and ADA.
  • Preserve confidentiality of associate medical documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 - 3 years' experience in HR/Benefits related position, specifically in leave of absence management or disability management.
  • Experience working with injuries/illness and physical limitations.
  • Experience reviewing medical documentation including physician notes and diagnostic results.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws related to leave of absence management, including FMLA and ADA.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory requirements and workplace safety principles.
  • Solid understanding of STD, LTD, and other benefit plans.
  • Strong customer-focused service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with non-routine situations.
  • Creative, self-directed, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, HRIS Software, and leave of absence management software.
