About the position

The Coordinator III, Student Activities at Lone Star College plays a pivotal role in enhancing student engagement through various activities and programs. This position collaborates closely with key campus stakeholders to foster a vibrant student community by overseeing student activities, student organizations, community service initiatives, sports club programs, and the management of the student lounge. The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Director/Program Manager of Student Activities/Student Services in the development and assessment of student engagement programming, ensuring that all initiatives align with the college's mission and cultural beliefs. In this role, the Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the assigned area, acting as a Subject Matter Expert and primary point of contact. Responsibilities include coordinating the operations of the student lounge, promoting student involvement, training and advising faculty advisors and student leaders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. The Coordinator will also be tasked with creating and submitting reports related to the department, conducting research and analysis, and presenting findings to various stakeholders. The position requires collaboration with both internal and external groups to coordinate student organizational activities and recreational events. This includes planning, scheduling, and coordinating meetings and events, as well as managing departmental budgets and resources. The Coordinator will also be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student work-study staff, and may lead special projects as needed. Overall, this role is essential in creating a supportive and engaging environment for students at Lone Star College.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily and long-term operations of assigned area.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the student lounge.
  • Promotes and monitors student involvement, training and advising faculty advisors and student leaders.
  • Ensures student organizations comply with all state, system, and college policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Creates and submits reports related to assigned department.
  • Performs research and analysis to assist with preparation and presentation of findings.
  • Assists with evaluation of programs and makes recommendations for revisions to processes and procedures.
  • Collaborates with internal and external groups to coordinate student organizational activities and recreational events.
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, and coordinating various meetings and events.
  • Monitors departmental and RSO budget expenditures and controls resources.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student work-study staff.
  • Takes part in and/or leads special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of general office and software applications.
  • Ability to meet specific deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Possesses good organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize duties.
