About the position

The Institutional Review Board Coordinator at UTHealth Houston plays a crucial role in overseeing the operational aspects of protocol submissions to the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects (CPHS). This position requires a candidate with research experience to assist the Research Director in ensuring timely and accurate processing of submissions, addressing the daily needs of the CPHS and investigators. The role is integral to maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations while supporting the institution's mission of healthcare education and scientific discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an administrator and advisor for the CPHS committees.
  • Prepares reports, forms, manuals, and agendas submitted for review and approval.
  • Supervises the documentation of all CPHS activities and assures compliance with all Federal and State regulations and laws.
  • Tracks productivity and turnaround time of matters submitted for review and approval.
  • Assists the Director in determining the level of review for research studies.
  • Coordinates the monthly meetings and regular sub-committee meetings.
  • Assures the implementation of CPHS recommendations.
  • Composes letters and other communications to ensure prompt communication among CPHS members and between the office and investigators.
  • Manages the flow of information between CPHS and investigators.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline.
  • Three (3) years of related experience, with the possibility of substituting required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and Federal and State regulations is preferred.
