About the position

The Lifelong Learning Coordinator at Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of various educational programs aimed at youth, seniors, and the community. This full-time position, which is part of the Continuing Education department, is responsible for overseeing programs such as Kids College, Senior Institute, Music Instruction, and Community Lectures. The Coordinator serves as the primary contact for current and potential instructors, managing logistics and providing essential support for these programs. A creative approach is necessary for developing new or improved services and courses, ensuring that the offerings are responsive to community needs. In this role, the Coordinator will explore new course offerings, evaluate options, and implement programming that aligns with the interests and needs of the community. This includes developing program schedules, building relevant content for print and online catalogs, and utilizing marketing strategies through social media. The Coordinator is expected to promote a culture of leadership within a collaborative, team-oriented environment, supervising and motivating a team to meet job expectations and align with the College's mission. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist in maintaining budgets, conducting program evaluations, and preparing periodic reports. Active participation in professional development and training is encouraged to stay current with best practices and trends in continuing education. The position also requires the ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the community, ensuring a collegial environment that supports the mission of FVCC. The Coordinator will report directly to the Continuing Education Director and is expected to contribute to the overall success of the Continuing Education programming.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for current and potential instructors for various educational programs.
  • Manage logistics, coordinate services, and provide support for programs.
  • Utilize a creative approach to develop new or improved services and courses.
  • Explore new course offerings, evaluate options, and implement programming.
  • Develop program schedules to meet community needs.
  • Build relevant content for print and online catalogs, marketing, and social media.
  • Promote a culture of leadership within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Supervise, recruit, develop, motivate, and evaluate a team in alignment with job expectations.
  • Help maintain budgets, assist with program evaluations, and prepare periodic reports and data.
  • Actively participate in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation.
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve objectives and enhance Continuing Education programming.
  • Recommend and implement standards and best practices across operations.
  • Attend related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Contribute to a productive team environment and backfill for other department staff as needed.
  • Create and maintain a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues.
  • Maintain professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Advance the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing to community activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of work experience in course program development, project management, and/or event planning; OR an Associate's degree and a minimum of four years of progressively responsible work experience in the same fields; OR an equitable combination of six years of related higher education and relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated professional communication, diplomacy, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in taking initiative, being proactive, critical thinking, problem analysis, and resolution.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple areas, individuals, projects, and priorities effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Work experience in an educational environment.
  • More than three years of progressively responsible work experience in course programming, curriculum development, project management, and/or event planning.
  • Advanced technical skills for developing course schedules, marketing, and reports.
