About the position

The Coordinator of Media at University Meadows Elementary is responsible for leading and developing instructional resources and services that support a student-centered educational process. This role focuses on implementing a school library media program that prepares students for a globally competitive world, emphasizing collaboration, digital citizenship, and inquiry-based learning.

Responsibilities

  • Aligns teaching with the NC Standard Course of Study and the NC Information and Technology Skills.
  • Models, coaches, and collaborates with teachers on inquiry problem-based learning, digital citizenship, literacy, evaluation of resources, and research process.
  • Empowers students as readers/writers, creators, and innovators in a welcoming, collaborative, and personalized learning environment.
  • Builds instructional and community partnerships to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Plans and facilitates personalized professional development in literacy, digital learning, personalized learning, and resource access.
  • Models data-driven decision making under the guidance of school leadership, continuously seeking opportunities to improve teaching and learning with technology and library media programs.
  • Works closely with school leadership and professional learning communities (PLCs) to encourage data-driven decision making in support of student achievement and growth.
  • Designs and implements long-range plans to ensure balance among teaching, literacy, digital learning, collaboration, print/digital collection development, and program management.
  • Develops a vision for the implementation of the Digital Learning Plan and the NC Digital Learning competencies for the school.
  • Organizes the media center and resources to support the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes access to resources.
  • Implements an ongoing collection development and evaluation process using data, in collaboration with the Media and Technology Advisory Committee.
  • Advocates the principles of intellectual freedom, copyright, and digital citizenship.
  • Serves on leadership teams such as School Leadership, Instructional Leadership Team, and the Media and Technology Advisory Committee.
  • Leads the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the school's digital learning media programs with the principal.
  • Collaborates and/or takes the lead on additional projects as directed by the principal.
  • Prepares and submits accurate reports for the NC Digital Learning Materials Inventory (NCDLMI) as directed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science.
  • Licensed by NCDPI as a school library media coordinator (076).
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, management, technology integration, and leadership.
  • Knowledge of K-12 curriculum including North Carolina Essential Standards and the American Association of School Librarians Standards for the 21st Century Learner.
  • Knowledge of current trends, methods, and developments in the school media and instructional technology profession.
  • Knowledge of library media terminology and appropriate uses of media and technology to enhance instruction and achievement.
  • Ability to custom-design instruction based on student achievement data.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information.
  • Ability to develop budgets from program implementation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and express ideas orally and in writing.
