About the position

The Coordinator of Aquatics & Facility Operations at Texas A&M University - Commerce is a pivotal role responsible for the daily management of the aquatics facility and programming, as well as shared responsibility for other facility operations. This position is essential in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of programs to the University community, which includes swim lessons, open recreation, and special events programming. The Coordinator will facilitate risk management training and ensure that Campus Recreation meets all University, local, state, and national requirements. In this role, the Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Great OutRoars, a seasonal outdoor pool area that features a heated leisure pool with various amenities, including a beach-type entry, fountains, and a current channel. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist with the operations of the Cain Sports Complex, which includes multiple activity fields and courts. A significant aspect of this position involves recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating student employees, including head guards and lifeguards, ensuring compliance with departmental and university regulations. The Coordinator will also lead monthly lifeguard in-services, oversee pool water testing, manage chemical supplies, and coordinate all aquatic programming, including a comprehensive swim lesson program for both adults and children. Budget management for the Aquatics program, as well as the development and enforcement of rules and regulations pertaining to aquatics and facility operations, are also key responsibilities. The role requires the Coordinator to stay updated on best practices in aquatics and facility operations through involvement in relevant organizations and training opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Great OutRoars outdoor pool area.
  • Assist with the operations of the Cain Sports Complex.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student employees for aquatics and facility operations.
  • Supervise student payroll for assigned areas in compliance with regulations.
  • Lead monthly lifeguard in-services and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Oversee pool water testing and chemical maintenance.
  • Coordinate all aquatic programming, including swim lessons.
  • Manage the Aquatics program budget and purchase necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and enforce rules and regulations for aquatics and facility operations.
  • Supervise safety instructors and manage the CPR class schedule.
  • Evaluate and reduce risk in aquatics and facility operations.
  • Serve as a liaison for Campus Recreation and assist with maintenance plans for aquatics equipment.
  • Assist in developing long-term and short-term goals for Campus Recreation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in aquatic and/or facility management in a collegiate, community, or private programming setting.
  • Lifeguard Certification is required.
  • Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one additional aquatic certification such as Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, or Water Safety Instructor Trainer.
