About the position

The Coordinator of Marketing and Conference Operations at Portland State University plays a crucial role in enhancing student recruitment and satisfaction through effective marketing strategies and managing conference operations. This position involves collaborating with various departments to promote university housing and dining services while also overseeing the logistics of hosting conferences in vacant residence halls. The coordinator will supervise student staff and ensure successful communication with external groups, contributing to the overall mission of University Housing & Residence Life.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the tactical lead in recruiting students to live and dine in UHRL facilities.
  • Support strategic enrollment and retention goals by collaborating with PSU Admissions and New Student Programs.
  • Implement comprehensive marketing goals in partnership with University Communications.
  • Represent UHRL at recruitment and outreach events.
  • Make decisions about and implement department communications to internal and external audiences.
  • Supervise student staff to support UHRL marketing and communications efforts.
  • Coordinate the conference program utilizing vacant residence hall rooms to generate revenue.
  • Promote conference services and assess feasibility for groups.
  • Manage booking information and communication with group leaders.
  • Oversee recruitment and interview processes for interns and student teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Experience in hospitality services or marketing and communications.
  • Project management experience and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with various marketing platforms and channels, including social media and digital marketing.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design software.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel occasionally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in college student housing or college student affairs.
  • Experience managing reservations or similar processes.
  • Experience working in a Summer Housing and Conference program.
  • Experience training and supervising students.
  • Competence in design software such as Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign.
  • Knowledge of Drupal or other content management systems.
  • Experience in producing marketing plans and materials.
  • Proficiency with web and marketing analytics platforms.
