About the position

The Coordinator of Marketing and Media Relations is a full-time staff position within the Athletic Communications department. This role is pivotal in promoting the university's athletic programs through various media channels and ensuring effective communication with the public and media outlets. The coordinator will be responsible for writing press releases, creating graphic designs for events, and updating the university's athletic website with game recaps, photos, and historical data. Additionally, the position involves maintaining comprehensive game, season, and career statistics, which are crucial for media reporting and fan engagement. A significant aspect of this role includes managing the university's social media presence by creating and posting graphics and content across all platforms. The coordinator will also identify advertising prospects, negotiate contracts, and engage in photography for both home and away events. Broadcasting and public address duties may be required as needed, adding to the dynamic nature of this position. Furthermore, the coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising Graduate and Student Assistants, ensuring that the department operates efficiently and effectively. The role also includes creating and submitting award nominations, which highlights the achievements of the athletic programs and enhances the university's reputation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in communications, marketing, or a related field, along with relevant experience in sales and media relations. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Broadcasting, Sports Administration, or a related field.
  • 2 years of sales experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing resources and setting priorities.
  • Ability to use independent judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the media and various constituencies.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and special events.
  • Skill in computers and software applications.
  • Knowledge of athletic sports, facilities, and equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
