About the position

The Coordinator of Operations (Recreation Specialist) at Indiana University Bloomington is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operational effectiveness of various recreational facilities, including the Student Recreational Sports Center and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse. This role ensures a clean and safe environment for participants, manages equipment maintenance, and coordinates event logistics, all while promoting student well-being and engagement in recreational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Student Recreational Sports Center and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse with facility management.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operational efficiency of outdoor/auxiliary recreational sports spaces.
  • Ensure an exceptional participant experience through clean and safe facilities appearance.
  • Maintain and oversee 400+ pieces of strength and cardio equipment.
  • Schedule regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure all equipment is operational and safe for use.
  • Manage inventory of equipment parts and supplies.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of events, ensuring that all logistical needs are met.
  • Coordinate with event planners and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of events.
  • Manage any facility-related issues that arise during events.
  • Implement and oversee procedures and protocols to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyze facility usage and performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Supervise and support staff involved in facility operations and maintenance.
  • Provide training and guidance to ensure staff are equipped to handle their responsibilities effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field.
  • 2 years of related experience with structured recreational programming.
  • CPR/AED certification within 180 days from hire.
  • Standard First Aid certification within 180 days from hire.
  • Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions certification within 180 days from hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with student employees, student organizations and event planning in a collegiate setting.
  • Program evaluation and training development experience.
  • Relevant certification in recreational equipment maintenance.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
