About the position

The Coordinator of Payroll and Human Resources is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, managing timesheets, and ensuring compliance with HR policies. This role involves communication with employees regarding payroll issues, maintaining payroll records, and supporting HR functions, including new hire processing and compliance monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, review, and finalize biweekly and monthly timesheets and leave requests.
  • Ensure the Human Resources office adheres to biweekly and monthly payroll deadlines.
  • Update reconciliation documents and run payroll reports to ensure accuracy.
  • Review all payroll and new hire entry for accuracy and compliance.
  • Complete and reconcile work-study awards and balances for each biweekly pay period.
  • Provide general and customer service support for HR and Payroll, assisting employees with forms and timesheets.
  • Monitor and process compliance for Commercial Driver License Holders according to Federal regulations.
  • Coordinate and schedule internal committee selection and interviews, communicating the process as needed.
  • Schedule selection interviews with candidates and communicate with the Human Resources Director.
  • Enter background checks for potential new employees.
  • Create and update new employee packets, ensuring compliance with required policies and forms.
  • Complete new hire orientation for part-time employees, including work study and student hourly employees.
  • Scan, index, and file HR/Payroll documents as required, completing bi-annual audits of the filing system.
  • Review I-9 forms for new hires, manage I-9 retention, and conduct yearly I-9 audits.
  • Assist the Human Resources Assistant Director in preparing documents for fiscal year changes, payroll audits, and employment verifications.
  • Cross-train with HR staff to provide backup when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute year-for-year for the degree.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in keying data.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse student populations, especially first-generation, low-income, and students of color.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with and knowledge of payroll processing.
  • Experience with automated business support systems such as Banner.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
