About the position

Berry College invites applications for a half-time Coordinator of the STEMTeach program to begin August 12, 2024. The STEMTeach program is a grant-funded initiative that focuses on recruiting and supporting students majoring in STEM disciplines to become teachers. This program has been active for seven years and has recently received funding for an additional five years. It operates as a multidisciplinary program within the School of Math and Natural Sciences, maintaining strong connections with the Teacher Education Department. The program provides students with various forms of support, including apprenticeships that commence early in their academic journey, professional development events with mentors and peers, substantial scholarship opportunities, and coordinated advising that integrates both their STEM and education coursework. This comprehensive support structure enables students to graduate with dual majors in one of eight STEM disciplines and education, fully certified as teachers. The primary responsibilities of the Coordinator include overseeing the daily operations of the STEMTeach program, providing monthly coaching to STEMTeach students, coordinating apprenticeships with teachers, and maintaining communication with the leadership team of faculty and mentor teachers in partner schools. Additionally, the Coordinator will organize on-campus activities that engage both mentors and participating students, as well as keep organized records of all program participants. This position is appointed for five years, with annual performance reviews to ensure the program's effectiveness and alignment with its goals.
