The Coordinator - Patient Relations/Risk Management position at Scripps Mercy San Diego involves supporting the Risk Management and Patient Relations department by addressing patient and visitor concerns, collaborating with department leadership, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist with intake of patient/visitor concerns and investigate these issues.
  • Collaborate with department leadership and Risk managers to resolve patient concerns.
  • Provide risk management services including planning, developing, monitoring, and reporting data related to patient relations.
  • Assist with claims management and monitor patient relations cases in coordination with the site risk manager.
  • Advocate for patients and family members during or after their stay or receipt of service.
  • Listen to issues, investigate concerns, and provide feedback to individuals.
  • Write letters and prepare reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health sciences or a related field with advocacy experience.
  • Experience with regulatory affairs and litigation.
  • Conflict resolution training.
  • Ability to utilize Excel or other databases and depict graphed information.
  • ARM (Associate in Risk Management) certification preferred.
  • Four years of successful hospital or healthcare agency advocacy and/or risk management experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to inspire confidence quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to design data collection systems, analyze and trend data, and present trends to management staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments and work with confidential materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Word processing and database experience highly desirable.
