About the position

The Coordinator - Student Orientation and Success at SUNY Oswego is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing dynamic orientation programs for new and transfer students. This role involves collaboration with various campus stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for students, including graduate and international students. The coordinator will also oversee family engagement opportunities and contribute to student success initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and implement a high profile, dynamic, and student-centered orientation program for all new and transfer students.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the Graduate Assistant - Student Success.
  • Develop and assess student learning outcomes for the Orientation Program.
  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise a diverse undergraduate student leader team to support and deliver orientation programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the New York City Orientation Program.
  • Serve on the Opening Committee to assist in the development of a large-scale welcome week program.
  • Teach GST 304 - New Student Transition Theory, a mandatory course for new Laker Leaders.
  • Plan and implement the annual Late Night Breakfast Program in collaboration with Auxiliary Services.
  • Partner with colleagues across campus to advance student retention.
  • Implement student programs and initiatives that support learning opportunities and a sense of belonging.
  • Manage departmental marketing and communication related to events and programming.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within all programs and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree at time of appointment
  • Experience in Student Affairs
  • Excellent administrative, communication, leadership and decision-making skills
  • Ability to be self-directed and work within a team
  • Flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant post-graduate degree and/or 1-2 years professional experience in student affairs or a related field
  • Prior experience in Student Orientation, First-Year Experience, New Student Programming, and/or Student Activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to increase student sense of belonging and engagement.
