About The Position

The Youth Sports Coordinator at the YMCA is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for youth participants and volunteers. This role involves supervising staff, managing sports programs, and ensuring that the YMCA's core values are upheld in all activities. The coordinator will work closely with the Youth Sports Director to maintain high-quality programming and foster community engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation or sports management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum six months experience in related field.
  • Excellent human relations skills and an ability to maintain position communication with staff and members.
  • Ability to address and make solid decisions in emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use.
  • Prior experience of successful supervision of staff and volunteers preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills, sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.

Responsibilities

  • Create an inclusive and fun environment for participants by actively engaging and building relationships with participants, parents, and coaches.
  • Represent the Y at assigned sites through effective site and equipment management, knowledge of the activity or sport, and by role modeling the Y's core values.
  • Create a safe environment by educating participants, parents, and volunteers using the Y voice attributes and responding swiftly to incidents when they occur.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to participants, parents, and volunteers using the Y voice attributes.
  • Implement leading practices and the established curriculum that helps youth achieve the five Cause Measurement goals.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, onboarding, role-modeling, and coaching, scheduling and on-going development.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers as needed per current Volunteer Policies and Guidelines.
  • Oversee multiple program site locations, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and required program records.
  • Work closely with the Youth Sports Director to ensure department operations are consistent with approved Leading Practices.
  • Supervise Youth Sports referees, instructors, and site leads, including hiring, onboarding, role-modeling, coaching, scheduling, and on-going development.
